Real Madrid’s Luka Modric rejects Milan approach

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has rejected an approach from Milan to remain in the Spanish capital, according to reports.

Marca cite a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport which claims the Rossoneri’s transfer chief Zvonimir Boban – a fellow countryman of Modric – led the negotiations but was knocked back.

Italian side Inter went through a protracted transfer saga last year in their attempt to sign Modric but a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu now looks to be increasingly unlikely.

There is set to be somewhat of a squad overhaul at Madrid this summer after a hugely disappointing campaign but no first-team starter from last season has yet departed.

A report in Marca last month claimed Modric was set to pen a new contract at Los Blancos to rule out an exit once and for all, but no official confirmation of this has materialised.

It follows a report earlier this month in Cadena Cope which claimed Zinedine Zidane has personally informed the midfielder that he wants to be able to call on the Croatian beyond this summer.
