Athletic Club Bilbao have completed the signing of Barcelona goalkeeper Jokin Ezkieta on a four-year contract, it has been confirmed.
The 22-year-old will now have a €45m release clause at the San Mames and he is expected to go straight into the first-team squad, to compete with Iago Herrerin and Unai Simon for the number one spot.
A Pamplona native, Ezkieta has been a member of Barcelona B’s side since 2015 after they signed him from his local side Osasuna – where he was a highly-regarded young goalkeeper.
He spent the 2016-17 season on loan at Sabadell in the third tier of Spanish football and also won Under-19 caps for Spain.
Upon his move to Athletic today, he described himself as “a quick goalkeeper who likes to take advantage of my height (195 centimeters) for the aerial game.”
