Barcelona to beat Sevilla to Ianis Hagi

Barcelona are hopeful of beating Sevilla to land talented Romanian playmaker Ianis Hagi this summer, according to fresh reports

The 20-year-old is starring for his nation’s Under-21 side in the current European Championships – inspiring his side to a semi-final appearance.

Diario Sport cite reports in the Romanian press that the Catalan giants could pay €8m to secure the player’s signature.

He is the son of former Real Madrid and Barcelona star Gheorghe Hagi – arguably the greatest player in the history of Romanian football – and his dad is currently his manager at Viitorul Constanța.

Gheorghe was considered one of European football’s top players during the 1980s and 1990s while his son plays in a similar position in advanced midfield and appears similarly technically gifted.

“I told him to choose Sevilla, because he would do well,” his national team boss Cosmin Contra is cited as saying by the report after telling Fanatik.

“In fact, Spanish football is ideal for the Romanian footballer, we will see if he will listen to my advice.”

Hagi scored 14 goals last season for his club side and has previously been on the books of Italian club Fiorentina.
