Barcelona must pay Adrien Rabiot for ‘non signing’

Barcelona must compensate Adrien Rabiot if they do not sign him this summer due to a pre-contract agreement, say reports.

Rabiot is out of contract at the Parisian club this summer and would not command a transfer fee, but his reported wage demands alongside agent fees (the player’s representative is his mother) are said to be excessive.

The 24-year-old has not featured for the first-team in over five months with the club refusing to play him until his situation is resolved, with the player seemingly intent on an exit.

The Catalan giants are said to have previously signed a pre-contract form with the midfielder which would mean the player is owed money by Barca even if they do not exercise their option to sign him – as Diario AS outline, via Sky Italia.

Previous reports have claimed the Blaugrana attempted to sign the midfielder for €40m last summer but talks broke down and now the midfielder is in exile at the Parisian club.

Juventus are said to now be the favourites to land the player on a free transfer and he could pen a five-year deal in Turin.

It is said that Rabiot is demanding an annual wage of €15m – which would make him one of the top earners in world football, with annual costs said to come in at a whopping €20m.
