Zinedine Zidane Real Madrid’s hero – Jorge Valdano

Former Real Madrid manager Jorge Valdano has called Zinedine Zidane a ‘hero’ after returning to a ‘weakened’ club earlier this year.

The Frenchman returned to Los Blancos nine months after his resignation with the club out of all cup competitions and adrift in third in La Liga.

“The image of it all (the club) was weakened at that time,” Valdano told an event in Madrid, as cited by Marca.

“As far as I’m concerned, for Zidane to return at that time was heroic and it should mean that he deserves a statue here at the Santiago Bernabeu, where they will destroy the shopping centre, and another in Florentino’s garden.

“The team clearly needs signings, we need to be busier in the transfer market than we have been in recent seasons, we need five or six big names to come in.

“Paul Pogba? He can be important in goals but he does not add so much in overall play, but if Zidane wants to sign him then he will play a bigger role in the games and the build-up.”
