Sevilla confirm Joaquin Caparros will not be Coach

Sevilla have confirmed Joaquin Caparros will not continue as Coach of the first-team but will remain at the club in a directorial capacity.

Caparros had been acting as the interim boss at Sevilla having shifted into the position for a third stint having previously held the role of Director of Football.

The shake-up was made after Pablo Machin’s dismissal in March, following the club’s exit from the Europa League and failing hopes of a top four spot.

In April, Caparros explained that he had been diagnosed with chronic leukaemia but had promised he would continue in his role without restrictions.

Sevilla are said to be on the verge of appointing former Roma Coach Eusebio Di Francesco on a two-year contract, according to separate reports.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, via Seville-based Estadio Deportivo, he will be reunited with sporting director Monchi at the Andalusian club.

Former midfielder Di Francesco has been in management for over a decade and managed over 200 matches for Sassuolo before his 2017 switch to Roma.

He led the club to the 2018 Champions League semi-finals and would be the second former Roma boss to go to Sevilla in recent times following Vincenzo Montella.

Sevilla recorded a sixth-place finish last campaign to qualify for the Europa League but miss out on their aim of qualifying for the fourth Champions League spot in La Liga.
