Toni Kroos signs new Real Madrid contract

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has ended speculation over his future at the club by signing a new contract until 2023.

The 29-year-old has been a fixture in Madrid’s first team since his arrival at the club from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2014, but he had been linked with a summer exit.

There is expected to be a summer overhaul at the outgoing European champions and links to midfielders Paul Pogba and Christian Eriksen have led to question marks on Kroos.

The German international has netted 13 times across 233 Madrid appearances but finished this campaign without any goals and providing just four assists.

“Real Madrid and Toni Kroos have agreed to extend the contract of the player, who will remain with the club until 30 June 2023,” a statement from Madrid read.

There are a number of the German’s Madrid teammates whose futures appear less certain, including long-term central midfield partner Luka Modric – whose deal expires next summer.

Kroos was an unused substitute in the home defeat to Real Betis on Sunday.
