Diego Simeone ‘not worried’ on Antoine Griezmann future

Diego Simeone has quelled doubts that Antoine Griezmann will leave Atletico Madrid this summer: “I am not worried at all.”

The 28-year-old penned a long-term contract at Los Rojiblancos last summer after rejecting interest from Barcelona, who had pursued a deal.

“Griezmann is our captain and he is important for us, so I am not worried at all,” Simeone told Fox Sports programme 90 Minutos, as cited by Marca.

“I am not in his body so I cannot tell you what he is thinking, but he has two years left on his contract and he is continuing to grow and improve here.

“Diego Godin replacement? We are working on finding a new player who will allow us to continue on our path, there are a number of candidates but I will not name individual players.

“We want players with the same characteristics and mentality, but we know that no players are exactly identical and this is what makes recruitment particularly important.

“The full-back situation is the most important because if you have great full-backs then you have great potential but if you do not, then you have major problems.

“For me, this is the most difficult position of all, because this is the position that gives the team life.”
