Luis Suarez has criticised his Barcelona side for ‘defending like a youth team’ in Tuesday’s historic four-goal defeat against Liverpool.
The Uruguayan reserved particular criticism for the defending for the fourth goal, as the Blaugrana were badly caught out by a quick short corner routine from the hosts.
“We looked like a youth team when defending the fourth goal,” Suarez lamented afterwards, as cited by Marca.
“We must be aware of all the criticisms that are going to come our way now and there is a lot of time for self-criticism within our team.
“These sorts of things cannot be allowed to happen at a club of Barcelona’s stature, we cannot be making the same mistake twice.
“Liverpool did what they had to do from the first minute to the last but for us we are now very sad because we are professionals and we feel pain.
“We did not play as a team and must ask for forgiveness.”
Suarez netted in the 3-0 first leg win but struggled to make a similar impact upon his return to Anfield.
