Barcelona president: No explanation for fourth goal

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu had ‘no explanation’ for the nature of his side’s collapse against Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final.

The Blaugrana blew a 3-0 first leg lead to go down by four goals at Anfield and Bartomeu was left fuming at the nature of the decisive fourth goal that his side conceded.

A short corner from Trent Alexander-Arnold found an unmarked Divock Origi in the penalty area to apply a simple close-range finish.

“It has no explanation…I honestly do not know, I have not talked to the Coach or players about it…,” Bartomeu told reporters as cited by Marca.

“I prefer not to talk right now about why this has happened and there will be time to reflect and explain, there will be a lot of internal questions.

“I feel particularly sorry for the fans, especially those who have travelled all the way here because this happened to us in Rome last year and now it has happened again.

“We now have a cup final (against Valencia) to prepare for.”
