La Liga Round Up Week 33: Barcelona move within six points of the title

Barcelona will be La Liga champions by next weekend if they beat Alaves and Levante in the next six days – following their 2-1 weekend win at home to Real Sociedad.

Goals from Clement Lenglet and Jordi Alba secured all three points for Ernesto Valverde's side, either side of Juanmi's equaliser, with the Basque side in 11th place in the table.

Karim Benzema netted his first hat trick in La Liga since 2015, as Real Madrid beat Athletic Bilbao to stay in third place, with second place Atletico Madrid wining 1-0 away at Eibar thanks to Thomas Lemar's late goal.

Getafe pushed their case for the last Champions League spot, with a 3-0 win over fifth place Sevilla giving Jose Bordalas' side a three point lead of the Andalusian side, with five games to go.

Valencia beat rivals Real Betis 2-1 at the Estadio Benito Villamarin to stay in seventh place, with Alaves slipping down to eighth after a 2-2 draw with Real Valladolid on Friday night.

Villarreal and Celta Vigo both pushed their case to avoid the drop with wins against Leganes and Girona respectively, meaning that are now four and three points away from the bottom three.

Levante secured a late 2-2 draw at home to Espanyol, and they are now just two points away from the relegation zone.

Rayo Vallecano and Huesca played out a 0-0 draw in Vallecas, with both sides needing a win and now in need of miracle to stay in the top flight.
