Nacho Fernandez: ‘Real Madrid players not motivated’

Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernandez admits the side are finding motivation tough for their run-in to the league season.

Los Blancos trail league leaders Barcelona by 13 points and will end the season empty-handed, with recent games having low levels of intensity, including Monday’s 1-1 draw at Leganes.

“Right now it’s not easy, because we have to motivate ourselves for games in which we aren’t playing for anything,” Nacho told reporters, as cited by Marca.

“The Coach is right when he says our starts to game have not been good enough and when you start a game by falling behind, it is never easy to fight back.

“We have to motivate ourselves more because we still have games coming up, but it is true that none of the defenders have been good all season.

“Karim Benzema? He is in really good form, he has been spectacular for this club and if one player this season should be praised, it’s Karim.”
