POST MATCH: Barcelona end Atletico Madrid’s title push with 2-0 Nou Camp win

Barcelona moved 11 points clear at the top of La Liga with a late 2-0 win over rivals Atletico Madrid.

The result virtually ends Diego Simeone's quest to win the title with Barcelona on track to retain their La Liga crown before the end of April.

Despite Atletico needing to win to keep alive their title hopes, it was Barcelona that started on the front foot, with Messi and Philippe Coutinho both forcing saves from Jan Oblak.

Antoine Griezmann, who has been heavily linked with a move to Catalonia, wasted the visitor's best chance of the opening half – and the home support made their feelings known about his poor performance.

The game was turned on its head on 27 minutes, as Diego Costa received a straight red card after an altercation with the referee – Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez booked in the melee that followed.

Simeone's side battled hard with 10 men after the break and Los Rojiblancos had looked to be on course for a hard earned point.

However, Suarez capitalised on a loose ball to fire home four minutes from time, with Messi adding second lees than two minutes later.
