Antoine Griezmann ‘to accept wage cut’ to join Barcelona

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann is willing to take a salary cut to join Barcelona, according to El Mundo Deportivo.

The report claim the French forward is on a net annual wage of €23m at Los Rojiblancos, as opposed to the €16m the Blaugrana offered him a year ago.

The 28-year-old’s release clause at Atleti currently stands at €200m but will drop to €120m on 1 July, which has alerted the Catalan giants once more.

Earlier this week, Griezmann told reporters he was tired of the links: “It’s the same every year, and I am used to it and tired of it.”

The forward is said to have agreed verbally to move to the Camp Nou last summer with many outlets claiming a full agreement had been struck.

The former Real Sociedad star eventually signed a new long-term deal at the Wanda Metropolitano but fresh reports indicate he is now having regrets about staying in the Spanish capital.

Griezmann has netted 18 goals this campaign for Diego Simeone’s side.
