Vinicius Junior to sit out Copa America – Brazil boss Tite

Brazil boss Tite has confessed Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior is unlikely to feature in this summer’s Copa America tournament.

The Brazilian teenage sensation was in tears as he came off with a ligament injury in the first half of the 4-1 defeat to Ajax in the Champions League earlier this month.

The forward, who has impressed for Madrid’s first-team this season despite being aged just 18, is not set to return to action until May at the earliest.

“He has missed an opportunity, and he would have to perform at a very high level with his club now,” Tite told reporters, as cited by Marca.

Vinicius had been called up to the Brazil senior squad for the first time for this month’s friendlies against Panama and Czech Republic but had to withdraw through the injury.
