Vinicius: Barcelona offered more money, but I chose Real Madrid ‘project’

Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has confirmed that he turned down a move to Barcelona prior to his switch to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2018.

In an interview with Spanish radio station Cadena SER, the Brazilian stated that the was no doubt in his mind about the decision.

"We (my father and I), visited both clubs and we liked them both.

"Barcelona wanted to pay me more, but we wanted we wanted the best project, which was at Real Madrid.

"I also spoke with Casemiro and Marcelo and they helped me to decide."

The 18 year-old has enjoyed an excellent debut campaign in the Spanish capital, with four goals in 19 starts in all competitions in 2018-19, and acknowledged hat things have moved at pace.

"It has all moved very fast here, as Marcelo and Casemiro told me it would.

"But I am enjoying playing here, and ignoring those who claimed that I could not play outside of Brazil."
