Vinicius Junior: ‘Rebuilding season for Real Madrid’

Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has confessed this was always likely to be a ‘rebuilding season’ for the club and ‘things would always be difficult’.

The Brazilian teenage sensation was in tears on Tuesday night as he came off with the injury in the first half of the 4-1 defeat to Ajax in the Champions League.

He is now set to miss two months of action with a torn ligament, likely ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign.

“At the start of the season we knew this would be a rebuilding season, that things would always be difficult,” Vinicius told Esporte, in quotes carried by Marca.

“The team now has to take advantage of the rest of the season, to re-find our confidence and grow collectively to the challenges that await us.”

Madrid crashed out of the Champions League on Tuesday with a 4-1 home defeat against Ajax, having also been eliminated from the Copa del Rey and they sit 12 points off La Liga leaders Barcelona.
