Bookmakers back Jose Mourinho for Real Madrid job

Bookmakers have slashed odds on the out-of-work Jose Mourinho becoming Real Madrid boss this summer to replace Santiago Solari.

Chants outside the Bernabeu on Tuesday night called for the return of the Portuguese boss, who coached Madrid between 2010 and 2013 – winning the league title in 2012.

The future of boss Solari is now under intense scrutiny following the 4-1 home loss against Ajax – Madrid’s fourth successive home defeat.

Los Blancos were last week eliminated from the Copa del Rey by Barcelona while they trail the Blaugrana by 12 points in La Liga following Saturday’s league defeat to the same opponents.

Current Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino – who formerly managed Espanyol – is second favourite to take the position while former Juventus and Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is third.

Solari replaced Julen Lopetegui in October but has failed to turn around the club’s fortunes, while Mourinho earlier in the week said he would not rule out a return to the Spanish capital.
