POST MATCH: Barcelona end Real Madrid title bid with Bernabeu win

Barcelona ended Real Madrid's fading La Liga title hopes with a 1-0 win at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday night.

After winning 3-0 in the Spanish capital in midweek in the Copa del Rey semi final second leg, Ernesto Valverde's side dealt a killer blow in the title race.

Ivan Rakitic's first half goal has opened up a 12-point gap between the two sides, with 12 games remaining.

The Croatian netted a dinked finish over Thibaut Courtois, on 20 minutes, in a first half where both sides struggled to create clear cut chances.

Real Madrid looked to rally after the break, with Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior going close to an equaliser, however in the end it was Barcelona that were unlucky not to extend their single goal advantage.

Luis Suarez should have put the game beyond doubt in the closing stages, but he missed gilt edged chance on the counter attack for the visitors.
