Pique: I like a fierce atmosphere at the Bernabeu

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has moved to defend his gesture to Real Madrid supporters during their 1-0 El Clasico win.

Pique is frequently the subject of unjustified ire from the Bernabeu crowd, and he appeared to make a 'talking hand' gesture to the crowd as he walked off at half time in Saturday evening's clash.

The former Spanish international was unhappy that the referee decided not to punish Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos for a foul on Lionel Messi moments beforehand.

"I like a warm atmosphere here, and I made it a little fiercer.

"The replays show an assault on Messi, yet their fans still complain.

"I made the gesture because their fans are complaining all the time, and then the referee whistles in their favour."

The win extends Barcelona's lead at the top of La Liga to twelve points ahead of third place Real Madrid.
