UEFA charge Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has been charged with improper conduct by UEFA after a celebration during his side’s Champions League tie with Juventus.

The Argentine celebrated his side taking the lead against the Bianconeri last week in controversial fashion as he grabbed his crotch in the dugout.

UEFA opened disciplinary proceedings based on reports written by referee Felix Zwayer and the match delegate.

However, Simeone has apologised for the gesture and claims it ‘came from the heart’ although UEFA have not viewed the situation in a lenient manner.

Atletico could face further action for the behaviour of their fans, who are accused of throwing objects and blocking stairways at Wanda Metropolitano.

The second leg will be played on March 12, with Los Rojiblancos leading 2-0 on aggregate thanks to first leg goals from Jose Maria Gimenez and Diego Godin.
