Mundo Deportivo: Barcelona not interested in Saul Niguez

Barcelona are not preparing a bid for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez according to reports in Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

Contrary to a story in Diario AS claiming that the defending La Liga champions are preparing a mega money bid for the Spanish international ahead of the 2019-20 campaign, Mundo Deportivo quoted club sources dismissing these claims.

Barcelona were linked with a move for the 24 year-old back in 2017, however he opted to sign a nine year contract with Los Rojiblancos, seemingly committing him to the club for life.

As part of that deal his release clause was increased from €80m to €150m, a fee which Barcelona deem to be to high to make a move – particularly after agreeing the transfer of Frenkie De Jong from Ajax for June 2019.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are more focused on strengthening in both full back areas and in attack, as opposed to midfield – with De Jong's Ajax teammate Matthijs de Ligt a consistent target.
