Quique Setien: I expected another striker to arrive in January

Real Betis manager Quique Setien has confirmed that he had hoped to sign another striker during the January transfer window.

The Andalusian side brought in Jese, on loan from PSG, defender Emerson, on loan from Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro – as part of a co-ownership deal with Barcelona, and Diego Lainez on a €14m deal from Mexican club Club America.

However they also loaned out Takashi Inui, Alex Alegria, Ryad Boudebouz and Antonio Sanabria – and Seitien was hoping for more incoming reinforcements to balance his squad.

"I expected a forward to arrive, but that has not happened.

"We were open to Sergio Leon leaving, but that didn't happen, so we will continue to work with him.

"Jese came in to replace Inui. Not to play out wide (as Inui did), but to play centrally, however we know that we can play on the wing."

He also confimed that Jese had taken part in full training with the rest of the squad, and he was working hard to forcing his way into the team in the coming weeks.
