Vinicius Junior: “I’m not a Real Madrid starter yet”

Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has downplayed his importance in the team’s first-team and insisted he isn’t a regular started.

The Brazilian teenager once again started in Sunday’s 4-2 win at Espanyol – his fourth league start of the campaign – but Marco Asensio and Gareth Bale are now returning from injury.

“Am I a regular starter? No because I have only arrived recently, and I’m very young,” Vinicius told reporters, as cited by Marca.

“I am happy to play of course, it helps me develop a lot and it gives me the opportunity to help Real Madrid win every game, which is very important.

“I want to show personality on the pitch, that is what the Coach has instructed me to do and I want to show daring on the pitch, and others help me.

“The team are in good form and the players are returning from injuries like Bale and Asensio, so we are entering the Champions League in the best possible form.”
