Santiago Solari: ‘Sergio Ramos a warrior for Real Madrid’

Real Madrid Coach Santiago Solari has hailed Sergio Ramos as a ‘warrior’ and even suggested he could be deployed as a number nine.

The comments came after the defender netted twice for Los Blancos in Thursday night’s 4-2 Copa del Rey victory over Girona in the first leg of their quarter final.

“Do not discount Ramos as a nine, he is a warrior,” Solari joked after the match, in quotes cited by Diario AS.

“We are a little annoyed our advantage going into the second leg is not greater, we feel we deserved but they scored early in the game and that helped them.

“Girona played very well throughout and continued to apply pressure so we had to be wary of that, but we played well.

“If you do not concentrate in these ties then you will be punished, but tonight we can be happy with our application and the result.

“Vinicius Junior? He is growing very quickly but he deserves his run in the first-team, his performances show a great deal of bravery.

“We believe the senior players at the club will continue to help this development.”
