Carles Alena: “Rotations can be no excuse for Barcelona defeat”

Barcelona midfielder Carles Alena admits the team ‘cannot use rotations as an excuse’ following their Copa del Rey defeat at Levante.

Ernesto Valverde’s experimental side went down 2-1 on Thursday night in a surprising result, with Barca’s much-changed line-up failing to click.

“We cannot use rotations as an excuse, the only important thing is that we did not play well individually or collectively,” Alena told reporters, as cited by Diario Sport.

“We have not played many games together in competitive football and you could see that but conversely, we train with each other every day, we know each other personally.

“We are fortunate to still have 90 minutes remaining in this tie and we know that at the Camp Nou we will be the favourites, so we must take advantage of that.

“We need to be focused from the start in games like this, because tonight we were not and we were punished.”
