Barcelona to sign Jean-Clair Todibo in January following Manchester City approach

Barcelona will sign in-demand Toulouse defender Jean-Clair Todibo in January after Manchester City lodged a bid, cite Diario Sport.

Todibo is out of contract at the Ligue 1 club this summer and City have reportedly offered €4m to secure his signature in January, which Barca are willing to outdo.

Last week, El Mundo Deportivo claimed the Blaugrana were in ‘pole position’ to sign the player who has not featured for the Ligue 1 club since November, when negotiations over a new deal broke down.

A report in ESPN FC subsequently claimed a pre-contract agreement had been struck between the player and Barca, whose aim is to sign him for a cut-price fee in January and then loan him out, rather than leave him at a club where is not featuring.

Gazzetta dello Sport have claimed Juventus, who also hold a strong interest in the player, ‘believe they are losing the battle’ for the player.

Various reports in the Spanish press have reported Barca’s interest in the 19-year-old while Marca have also stated that Real Madrid are in the mix for his signature.

El Mundo Deportivo said Barca ‘are in total control’ of the player’s situation and are confident they can land Todibo – who is out of contract in June – and have ‘intensified their approach’.

Having started his career as a midfielder, Todibo has made 10 starts for his club in Ligue 1 this season in the heart of defence and will be a free agent in June.

Marca quote the player’s agent Bruno Satin as saying: “He wants to prove himself at the highest level, I am sure he will be at a big club soon.”
