Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos blasts ‘scandalous’ VAR decisions

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has blasted VAR for not awarding his side two ‘very clear’ penalties against Real Sociedad: “It was scandalous!”

The defender appeared to be pushed in the back by Asier Illarramendi in the first half inside the area before forward Vinicius Junior went down under a challenge from La Real goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli later in the game, which Madrid lost 0-2.

“Both penalties were very clear, particularly the Vinicius incident – it was scandalous,” Ramos raged to reporters, as cited by Diario AS.

“For my one, Illarramendi pushed me but he did a good job to convince the official that it was the case, but the Vinicius one is a different incident and much clearer.

“I have always called for the implementation of VAR and I support it but I have no idea why it was not used in this situation, I cannot understand it.

“We are not asking for favours from VAR but we are asking for it to deliver justice – changes need to be made because I have not seen anything like this in a long time.

“I told the referee my thoughts and he clarified that he was convinced it was not a penalty, and I could not believe it.

“We could blame Casemiro for giving away the penalty but that would not be right, tomorrow that could happen to me or anyone else, we must stick together and accept collective responsibility.

“We never shy away from the situation when things go wrong and this will be no different.”
