Barcelona step up negotiations for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot

Barcelona are ramping up their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot, who they are reportedly confident of signing this year.

The 23-year-old is out of contract at the French champions in June and has been linked with several top European clubs, including the Blaugrana.

Diario Sport report there is an ‘imminent’ meeting in the Catalan capital with the player while El Mundo Deportivo say negotiations are ongoing between the player and the club.

Last month, there were reports that the central midfielder had already agreed terms with the Catalan giants were reported Le Parisien at first and verified by El Mundo Deportivo.

The Frenchman’s contractual situation has led to reports he could leave the French capital in a cut-price deal this January, or for free next summer.

The latest reports suggest the France international is demanding an annual salary of €10m alongside a similarly-sized signing on bonus, which is holding up the process.

PSG are said to be keen to offload the player at the nearest possible date as they have no plans to reinstate him into their first-team as he has no intention of renewing his deal on their terms.

The Catalan giants were strongly linked to Rabiot this summer but instead signed Arthur Melo and Arturo Vidal to replace the outgoing Andres Iniesta and Paulinho.
