Martin Odegaard ‘disappointed’ by Real Madrid opportunites

Martin Odegaard admits he is disappointed not to have been afforded more first-team opportunities at Real Madrid.

The 20-year-old is currently on loan at Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem after making 43 first-team appearances at Heerenveen, but has featured in just two games for Madrid since joining in 2014.

“The huge expectations are normal when you sign for a club like Real Madrid,” Odegaard told Norwegian newspaper VG, as cited by Marca.

“Of course, I would have liked to be given more game-time than I have had but I always was aware that I would be loaned out to boost my development.

“It has taken a very long time for me to be given a chance in the first team but it was always going to be a big ask but I need to prove I am the player the club thought they were buying.

“I want to be afforded a chance to prove myself at the club, then it will not bother me what happens this summer or in three years’ time.

“I know I am still young and have many years, I am not near my peak.”
