Diego Simeone not in contract talks with Atletico Madrid – reports

Atletico Madrid are not in contract renewal talks with Coach Diego Simeone, the club have confirmed: “Now is not the moment to sit down to talk.”

Reports last week in Marca said the club were opening talks with the Argentine Coach to extend his current deal beyond June 2020 whilst offering a pay rise.

However, ESPN FC report a club source at Atleti as saying: “There are no open negotiations yet for Simeone's new contract and the harmony between club and Coach is total.

“Both sides consider that now is not the moment to sit down to talk.”

In September 2017 he agreed a two-year extension to his deal which had been due to the expire at the end of that season, having previously taken the unusual step of reducing his deal.

Simeone guided Atleti to last year’s Europa League title and the subsequent European Super Cup this season, while his side currently lie one point from the summit of La Liga.
