Luis Enrique: Football ‘unfair’ to Spain

Luis Enrique felt ‘football was unfair’ to Spain after they lost 3-2 to Croatia in last-gasp fashion on Thursday.

“It was a great second half from both teams,” said the Coach after La Roja’s defeat in the Nations League.

“We were much better than in the first, where we didn’t pose much of a threat because of the many inaccuracies in our play.

“The team deserved more, certainly not a defeat. Their first goal came from a mistake, the second was from a set-piece and their last one was lucky as it came when both teams were going for it.

“Obviously it would’ve been much better to win. We did some good things in the second half, but they opted to play on the break and not press very high.

“That shows it was a very, very difficult group. We obviously didn’t expect these two defeats, but we still have a chance going into the last game. If Croatia and England draw, Spain will go through.

“Obviously I’m concerned about the things we have to adjust, like after every game. I really liked the team in the second half.

“We came back twice and deserved something from it. We hit the woodwork and it’s incredible that some of our chances didn’t go in.

“I don’t think football was fair to us tonight.”
