Santiago Solari rejects Zinedine Zidane comparisons at Real Madrid

Real Madrid interim Coach Santiago Solari has rejected comparisons to Zinedine Zidane despite similarities in the manner of their appointment.

Both men played for Madrid before being promoted from managing the Castilla to take charge of first-team affairs, with Solari replacing Julen Lopetegui on Monday.

“Zidane is an all-time great and we will leave it at that, we cannot compare ourselves to him,” Solari told reporters at his introductory press conference.

“Working for Real Madrid is a great opportunity. I sweated every last drop when playing for the club like many others.

“This is a group of champions and they are hurting at the moment. It is not an easy situation but we must reverse it.

“This is a delicate moment but it is in these situation when your true character comes to the fore.

“Going through life, is like this job, everything can change very quickly. The important is the day to day work and what we put into it.

“The idea is to go to Melilla (in Wednesday’s Copa del Rey clash) and play with real courage and pride, I am here to win football matches, it's that simple.

“Will Vinicius play more? He is another player in the first-team squad, just like the rest.”
