Leeds United want Alaves midfielder Ibai Gomez

English Championship club Leeds United want to sign Alaves midfielder Ibai Gomez, according to reports in the Spanish press.

The 28-year-old is one of the stars of the high-flying Basque club but is out of contract at the end of the current season, leading to suggestions he could be sold in January.

Marca say Leeds are interested in the signing, with Gomez making 75 first-team appearances at Athletic Club Bilbao under Marcelo Bielsa, now at the helm at Elland Road.

The set-piece specialist joined Alaves from Athletic in 2016 and has scored 19 goals since and is now an instrumental figure in the first-team.

Athletic Club are also said to be monitoring the possibility of a return for the player.
