Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernandez is adamant the squad are supportive of under-fire Coach Julen Lopetegui and want him to continue.
A five-game winless run piled the pressure on Lopetegui whilst Tuesday’s narrow victory over Viktoria Plzen did not quell the doubts ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Barcelona.
“We want to win games for ourselves, for the club, for Lopetegui,” Nacho told reporters, as cited by Diario AS.
“We want Lopetegui to continue with us and whilst that is not our decision, it is us – the players – who should be blamed, we are a team and everyone is in this together.
“Sunday will be a special game, it always is and every player wants to play in it. We only focus on our next game and now we are fully looking ahead to El Clasico.
“We go into the game with a victory and that improves morale, naturally, but we are also eager to prove a point.
“Nobody focuses on what the press is saying, we are all professional. We only care about winning because that is what is expected of us.”
