Barcelona star Lionel Messi was the leading figure at an event at the Sant Joan de Deu Pediatric Cancer Centre on Thursday.
The Argentine took time to meet many of the children who have been stricken with the disease as football’s international break draws to a close.
“It’s a pleasure to be able to be here,” Messi told reporters at the event.
“This is a happy moment, it’s extraordinary to be part of this project and to see it become a reality. I’m grateful to everyone that has collaborated for it to become possible.
“I hope that these kids can keep fighting this cruel disease, and that is what cancer is, and that we are in a position to help.
“I’m happy to have been able to collaborate with this dream.
