Ex Barcelona president Joan Gaspart: ‘La Liga don’t understand football’

Former Barcelona president Joan Gaspart has blasted La Liga for attempting to stage games abroad: “They do not understand football.”

The 74-year-old reiterated that ‘money is not everything’ and spoke of his pain that his former club had not stated their opposition to the move.

La Liga president Javier Tebas is hopeful of staging Girona’s January clash with Barcelona in Miami but FIFA, the Spanish FA, the AFE union and Real Madrid have all opposed the move.

“Those behind the idea do not understand football, they do not comprehend its purity,” Gaspart told Marca.

“Spanish football should be played in Spain and those running the game must understand that in life, money is not everything.

“It hurts me that Barcelona have not opposed the move totally, in fact they appear to have welcomed it at a boardroom level.

“Even the kick-off times from the league, they are a disgrace. It is all about money making but forgets basic elements.”
