Nacho Fernandez: Real Madrid cannot live in the past with Cristiano Ronaldo

Nacho Fernandez has called on Real Madrid ‘not to live in the past’ and rue the absence of former forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese left Madrid in a €100m deal to join Juventus in July while after their 1-0 loss at CSKA Moscow, goalkeeper Keylor Navas lamented his absence.

“Cristiano Ronaldo took the decision to leave Real Madrid,” Nacho told reporters after the game.

“We, the players, cannot do anything about that and he is now a player that is in our history, it was his decision to make and we can only respect it and what he achieved for this club.

“But we cannot live in the past or think what this team would be doing with him, because it was his choice to go.

“Football is sometimes complicated, we created many chances to score and we deserved to but it did not happen.

“We aren't used to going three games without a goal so this defeat hurts us more but that doesn't mean we'll stop working.

“If we keep creating our chances the ball will go in soon enough.”
