Barcelona president ‘opens door’ to Pep Guardiola return

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has ‘opened the door’ for a return to the club for former Coach Pep Guardiola.

The current Manchester City boss recently said he would like to finish his coaching career at the Camp Nou, in the club’s youth academy.

“He is a genius,” Bartomeu told an interview with The Times, as cited by Diario Sport.

“I read quotes recently that he would like to come back to Barcelona in the future, perhaps in a role with our La Masia academy.

“That would be good news for the club and he knows the door is always open for him to return, nobody wanted him to leave initially.

“He wanted to leave and that was his choice but he could certainly come back and we would support it, why would we not?”

Bartomeu also discussed the future of Lionel Messi: “I think we will have him longer than the current deal (until 2021).

“He has no intention of leaving and we keep telling him he can be a one-man club, and we never intend to sell our best players.

“We want to continue our success and bringing happiness to our fans.”
