Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale risks thigh injury

Real Madrid are sweating over the fitness of Gareth Bale after he pulled up with a suspected thigh injury during Saturday’s Derbi against Atletico.

Bale was seen clutching his right thigh and went off at half-time, with Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui confirming the Welshman was in ‘some discomfort’ and left the 0-0 draw as a ‘precaution’.

ABC reports the No 11 will undergo tests on Sunday to determine the extent of his problem but warns he is ‘doubtful’ for their midweek Champions League trip to CSKA Moscow.

Marca, meanwhile, points out Bale had become Los Blancos’ ‘leader in attack’ following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and gone ‘almost a year’ without injuries.

He had scored four goals and assisted three in his first seven appearances of the season but may now join Isco and Marcelo on the treatment table.
