Griezmann: My FIFA exclusion is odd

Antoine Griezmann believes his exclusion from FIFA’s three-man shortlist for ‘The Best’ award is ‘odd’ and ‘a shame’.

The Atletico Madrid and France forward was not included on the shortlist, which included Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric, Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah of Liverpool.

“My exclusion is odd, I believe it a shame,” Griezmann told an interview with L’Equipe, in quotes carried by Diario AS.

“It is a FIFA shortlist and the FIFA tournament is the World Cup, but France won that competition and not one of our players is on that list, that does not make sense.

“The Ballon d’Or? This is the limit for any player and I believe I am closer than I ever have been, it would be an honour for me of course.

“I don’t believe if I don’t win it will be because of a lack of fairness, but I will remind people I have won trophies and proved to be vital at the key moments in those successes.”
