Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez insists his team are ignoring any title expectations this season and they are focusing on themselves.
Diego Simeone’s men squeezed past Rayo Vallecano 1-0 on Saturday but the Spain international was adamant they would start to pick up their performances in the coming weeks.
“We are not thinking about what people outside of the club are saying and ignoring any expectations,” Saul told reporters, as cited by Marca.
“Every game has lots of complications and for us it has not been an easy pre-season with players returning (from the World Cup), and we are not yet at our top level.
“We do have plenty of self-belief and we will continue to work hard and fight for everything, we believe we will continue to improve and our quality will shine through.
“Against Rayo we were too slow in our build-up play but the most important thing for us was the three points.”
