Barcelona are focusing on success in the Champions League next season after seasons of underperformance, states Lionel Messi.
The Blaugrana have failed to progress past the quarter-final stage of the competition in each of the last four seasons and last season saw a painful exit at the hands of Roma.
“This year we have built a very strong squad,” Messi announced to supporters on the pitch at the Camp Nou ahead of the Joan Gamper trophy victory over Boca Juniors.
“The new signings will help us to improve a lot, they have added a lot of quality to our squad.
“Last season was very good – winning the Cup and La Liga, but it’s true that we all got a bit frustrated in the Champions League, especially because of the way we were knocked out.
“So today we promise you all that we will do our best to bring that beautiful and longed-for cup here to the Camp Nou.”
