Ajax midfielder Frenkie De Jong has admitted he knows of Barcelona’s interest in signing him this summer.
However, the 21-year-old, one of the main targets for Barca boss Ernesto Valverde in the transfer market, also conceded that the constant rumours are beginning to frustrate him.
“I’m an Ajax player so I can’t say too much about it at the moment,” De Jong told Voetbal International after helping his club defeat Sturm Graz in a Champions League qualifier on Wednesday night.
“Of course there is interest, everyone knows that, but I am an Ajax player, as I say.
“In the beginning the transfer rumours are nice, but gradually I think I don’t need this anymore, they can write what they want.
“That’s not me and it’s not that I think ah, that’s nice”.
De Jong has been linked with a switch to the Camp Nou for several months, while Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have also shown interest, and reports suggest Ajax may be tempted to sell if they receive a bid over €40m.
Meanwhile, De Jong’s representative Ali Dursun is due to meet with Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars on Saturday to try and thrash out an agreement over the player.
