Barca considering Liverpool stopper

Barcelona are considering a shock move to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, according to reports.

The 30-year-old old Belgian, signed from Sunderland for €9m in 2013, has failed to hold down a regular starting place at Anfield and would be seen as back-up for first-choice stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen at the Camp Nou.

Mignolet has slipped further down the pecking order at the Merseyside club with the arrival of Alisson from Roma, and would now be likely third choice despite the struggles of Loris Karius carrying over from the Champions League final and into pre-season.

Marca claim Mignolet is a potential replacement for Jasper Cillessen, who is likely to leave the Catalans in the summer transfer window as he seeks first-team football.

Turkish outfit Besiktas are also keeping an eye on Mignolet’s situation, while Barca are also understood to have ran the rule over Wolfsburg keeper Koen Casteels as well as Yann Sommer of Borussia Monchengladbach.
