One-legged Supercopa confirmed

The Spanish FA have confirmed the Spanish Supercopa between Barcelona and Sevilla will be contested by a single match.

The authorities have shelved the two-legged nature of the tie in light of Sevilla needing to win three qualifiers to advance to the Europa League group stage.

Sevilla had rejected the ideas via a statement on Sunday: “To whomever it concerns, let it be clear: Sevilla Futbol Club has not altered its stance – the Spanish Supercup is a two-legged fixture as is set out in the calendar. That is how the Club desires it to be played. It has accepted no other proposal.”

A report in El Mundo Deportivo stated Barca had given the green light to the federation’s plans of a single match to be contested on August 12.

The Moroccan city of Tangier is ‘very likely’ to host the game, according to Spanish FA chief Luis Rubiales.
