Gerard Pique has ‘caused surprise and unease’ at Barcelona for his involvement in Antoine Griezmann’s film stating he will remain at Atletico Madrid.
Barca vice-president Jordi Mestre was referencing Griezmann’s television documentary La Decision, aired last week, which was produced by Pique’s company.
The French forward announced he would be staying at Atleti despite the Blaugrana’s attempts to sign the player, while Samuel Umtiti also tweeted he would eat popcorn watching the show.
“We respect the decision of Antoine Griezmann to renew with Atletico, just as we respect the decision of any player regarding their future,” Mestre told reporters.
“We informed Atletico of our interest in an official and fair manner.
“At Barca, we want players who are committed and determined to succeed here.
“I am very sorry and we regret that our supporters have been disappointed by the final decision.
“We have told Gerard Pique that his participation (in Griezmann’s documentary about his future) cause surprise and unease both the club and the supporters.
“We will speak internally to Gerard and Samuel Umtiti when they return from the World Cup.”
