Griezmann: I’m staying at Atleti

Antoine Griezmann has confirmed that he will stay at Atletico Madrid, putting an end to the speculation surrounding his future.

Griezmann remained true to his word of making an announcement on his future before France’s World Cup opener against Australia on Saturday, doing so in a special broadcast on #Cero 48 hours prior.

“They’re doing everything possible to improve the team,” justified the attacker, who had been heavily linked with Barcelona.

“They’re making a big effort to strengthen themselves and I want to stay. I’ve decided to stay.

“I want to show everyone I have faith in the team and my teammates and that I haven’t made a mistake.

“We’re going to try to win our first trophy of the new season on August 15.”

AS reports the 27-year-old will be given a ‘significant’ pay rise, making him one of the ‘best’ earners in world football.

Griezmann joined Atleti from Real Sociedad for €30m in the summer of 2014 and has gone on to score 112 goals in 209 appearances for Los Rojiblancos, winning a Supercopa and Europa League in that time.
