Former Spain international defender Fernando Hierro has hailed current pairing Sergio Ramos and Gerard Pique as ‘the best defenders in the world’.
Hierro made 89 appearances for his nation between 1989 and 2002, scoring 29 goals, and believes the current central defensive partnership is crucial for La Roja.
“Pique and Ramos are much better defenders than I was,” Hierro told Cadena Cope.
“They both have personality, experience and quality, and are decisive not just defending their own area but are a threat in the opposition box.
“For me, they are the two best defenders in the world.”
