Pellegrini ‘robbed at gunpoint’

Former Villarreal, Real Madrid and Malaga Coach Manuel Pellegrini escaped unhurt after being mugged at gunpoint on Saturday night.

The current West Ham United boss was alongside his wife, Carola Pucci, had her handbag stolen in the Chilean capital Santiago as they went out for dinner.

The incident occurred in the Santiago suburb of Vitacura with the assailants fleeing in a stolen car, which was later found abandoned by police, The Guardian cite reports in Chile as saying.

“Congratulations to @Carabdechile for their speedy and brave reaction,” wrote Pellegrini on Twitter.

“I’m also thankful for the help of locals. I hope they give the Carabineros more resources to solve the problem of delinquency as soon as possible.”

Pellegrini coached in La Liga between 2004 and 2013 across three clubs, and joined West Ham on a three-year contract last month.
